A spokesman for Hartford HealthCare said Wednesday that a meeting with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield failed to produce a contract, four days after a previous agreement expired.

Shawn Mawhiney said another meeting has not been scheduled.

The two sides have been locked in a dispute since a contract affecting tens of thousands of patients ended Saturday.

With the expiration of the agreement, patients are now classified as out-of-network, resulting in increased out-of-pocket health care costs.

Anthem declined to comment Wednesday.

Affected hospitals include Hartford Hospital, the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, Backus Hospital in Norwich, Windham Hospital in Willimantic and the Institute of Living, a Hartford-based facility that treats mental illness and other health conditions.
