A coffee bean hailed as a weight loss miracle by more than 172,000 Instagram followers has launched in the UK – but a nutritionist has slammed the product as a ‘gimmick’.
Skinny Coffee Club, which makes a six-calorie caffeine-filled cup, has just arrived in Holland and Barrett stores from £24.95 for a month’s worth.
The drink, which contains a host of natural ingredients said to aid weight loss, claims to help you dramatically drop pounds in just 28 days, as well as clear up your skin and reduce wrinkles.
Skinny Coffee Club claims it will help you lose weight in just 28 days. The company sends out packs of coffee alongside a fitness and diet guide for customers to follow, and programmes range from 28 days to 12 weeks
But registered nutritionist Rob Hobson, who analysed the coffee for FEMAIL, says there is ‘no evidence’ that the coffee will help you drop a dress size.
The Skinny Coffee Club has racked up a diehard following, and is sold in 145 countries around the world. The company regularly posts transformation pictures on Instagram and its website of its gorgeous customers who say they’ve fought their flab thanks to the drink.
It’s one of the most searched-for products on the Holland and Barrett website, and thousands on social media swear by the coffee as the secret to their staggering transformations.
But Hobson is sceptical of the drink’s grand health and weight loss claims.
This woman said she dropped several dress sizes after following the company’s fitness and diet programmes, as well as drinking the coffee

He said: ‘This is just another example of a gimmick health food that is not backed by any reliable evidence and comes with no approved heath claim.
What’s the best way to drink Skinny Coffee Club?
Infuse one teaspoon with boiling water in a cafetiere and drink 30 minutes before you have your breakfast.
It is recommended that you drink it without milk and sugar, but the company says you can use coconut or almond milk accompanied with Stevia as a sweetener.
‘There is a little research showing how green tea can increase metabolism but not to the degree that pounds of body fat start falling off you. I wouldn’t hedge your bets on this coffee being a quick solution to losing weight as there is no such thing.
‘The only thing that is going to significantly speed up your metabolism is exercise and increasing your ratio of muscle to fat.’
‘The most effective way to lose weight is to make changes to your diet and get active – and of course the most effective weight loss diet is the one that you can stick to.’

Skinny Coffee Club is sold in pack sizes ranging from 28 days to 12 weeks for nearly £60.
It claims to be packed full of fat-busting ingredients, such as green tea extract, which is said to increase metabolish.
It also contains garcinia cambogia – reported to reduce appetite – and super food spirulina, which is packed with protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, according to the company.
It contains slightly less caffeine than a normal cup of coffee too.
But it’s more likely that the fantastic weight losses its customers rave about are the result of the company’s recommended diet and exercise programmes it also sends out to customers with their coffee.
Holland & Barrett nutritionist Elizabeth Wall said of the drink: ‘Skinny Coffee Club contains no more caffeine than a normal cup of coffee, so by swapping your morning coffee it is an easy way to help take control of your weight.
‘All the ingredients are natural and contain a considerable amount of beneficial nutrients not found in your bog-standard caffeine hit. We would recommend drinking Skinny Coffee Club as part of a healthy balanced diet to give your wellness plan a boost in the right direction.’
